Gorges du Pont du Diable
The Gorges du Pont Diable are a magnificent site where you can admire how water has eroded the rock over thousands of years. The result is spectacular: the Dranse rushes between the walls in a maze of large boulders and numerous waterfalls. A “Pas dans le vide” (as at the Aiguille du Midi) overlooks a vertiginous fault.
A short video at the chalet reception desk explains the formation of these gorges perfectly. There are explanatory panels all along the route through the Gorges du Pont du Diable.
The current layout dates from 2019 and is the result of a huge amount of work.
Accessible to everyone, it should be noted that the gradient is 110 metres over a short distance. The metal staircases, fitted with handrails, are very steep. I would therefore advise people who are sensitive to vertigo to descend them with their backs to the void like a ladder.
You can also go as far as the Lac du Jotty and its dam, a 1km walk from the Gorges du Pont du Diable car park.
Like all tourist sites, it’s best to visit during the week if possible, and outside July and August.
Admission costs €18 for 16-year-olds and over and €14 for children aged 4 to 15.
Opening times April-May-June from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm non-stop, July-August from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm
The Gorges du Pont du Diable are located at “le Jotty” in the commune of La Vernaz.
Access via the D902 between Thonon-les-Bains and Taninges.
